You didn’t provide a city for me so I’ll try to give you an idea.
There is a City Bank in Lubbock, Texas that has a (C-) rating.

Compass Bank has 3 main offices so the one you deal with is a branch most likely and is part of one of the 3. Compass’ ratings for:
Birmingham, Alabama office is a D+
Seaside, Oregon office is a C
Wilmerding, Pennsylvania is a C-
You need to ask at your branch, where is their corporate office and make them be specific.

There is no BBBA with FDIC and you can search a bank at this site: http://www.fdic.gov/search/index.html

My bank Texas State Bank was recently purchased by Compass which I understand is a subsidiary of BBBA of Spain. How safe is it. I also have money in Lone Star National Bank. Can you comment on these Thank you

Wells Fargo has 6 banks. None of the 6 are from Texas so the Texas Wells Fargo are probably from one of the other Wells Fargo. Another words, Wells Fargo from say Calif. or Colorado are probably the parent bank. All 6 Wells Fargo are rated C something – either C-, C or C+
American National of Wichita Falls, Texas is rated B+ (good rating may be sound)
There is no Prosperity Bank per say but I haven’t checked all my resources but there is a Prosper Bank of Prosper, Texas and it is rated D- (not good).
American National appears to be the best out of your list. Hope that helps.

Guaranty Bank – there is no Guaranty Bank in Bryan, Texas so it must be a branch.
There are four Guaranty Bank locations:
1. Milwaukee, Wisc. rated (D-)
2. Mamou, Louisana rated (B)
3. Springfield, Missouri rated (C-)
There is a Guaranty Bank in Austin, Texas and it has a ( D+ ) rating and if it were me, I’d pull my money out.
